New Estonian law bans tattoo, tanning services for minors

Dec 13, 2024

Tallinn [Estonia], December 13: Estonia's parliament passed a new public health law on Wednesday, making it illegal to provide tanning and tattoo services to minors.
The law, which will take effect on Sept. 1, 2025, restricts solarium and tattoo services exclusively to adults aged 18 and over.
According to the ministry of social affairs, the legislation is designed to enhance public health protection and promote an environment conducive to longer and healthier lives, as reported by Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) on Thursday.
The law also enforces stricter regulations on products and services posing health risks, including limits on the use of toxic plants, animals, plant- and animal-based products, and hazardous chemicals.
The ministry underscored the health risks associated with tattooing, particularly from the dyes used in the process.
